Bill Ganus, Samuel Tekobo, and Zach Thomas, all of the Pinkhassik group,
won an honorable mention in the finals of the
2009 Global Venture Challenge, sponsored
by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the U.S. Department of Energy. The
group, and their proposed business start-up, Poros, won a $1000 cash prize
for their performance in the Energy Idea to Product® competition. Along with
fourteen other groups, “Poros” presented their energy-saving technology and
business start-up plan to the judges during the competition, held March
25-27 at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Seven
proposed start-ups out of thirty were chosen to advance to the finals. The Global Venture Challenge 2009 is an educational event designed to foster entrepreneurial spirit by engaging students, industry, government and the investment community in the discovery and development of innovative ideas. The ultimate goal is to encourage students to launch new technology-based businesses for the rapid deployment of market viable energy technologies. The event theme for this year is Industrial Energy Efficiency and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Industrial Technologies Program. |
